Energy and enthusiasm
Your energy on the mic needs to be a notch higher than you think — flat audio feels even flatter through headphones. Smile, stand, and lift your delivery on purpose.
Recording flattens everything. The version of you the listener hears is always a little lower-energy than the version you remember performing. The fix isn't shouting — it's intentional lift. Smile, even if no one can see you. Stand if you can. Pretend you're talking to a friend across the table.
If your topic genuinely excites you, that comes through. If it doesn't, no amount of vocal gymnastics will fake it. Match the format to your real interest level — and if you're struggling for energy on a topic, ask why.
Boring is the only unforgivable podcast sin.

Turn the energy dial up
Try standing up to record, smiling deliberately at the mic, and imagining a specific person on the other side of the conversation. If energy is still flat, your topic might be the problem — not your delivery.
