What to include in your episode intros
Your intro needs four things: who you are, the show name, who it's for, and what's in this episode. Miss any and listeners drift before you've started.
There are few rules in podcasting — it's a creative medium. With that said, the intro of every episode works harder if you include these elements.
First, tell the listener who they're talking to — real name or nickname, just introduce yourself. Then say the show name. They may be working through a huge playlist of new podcasts and need the reminder.
Crucially, tell them who it's for and what's in it for them. If the show is "learn Spanish" and the episode is "ordering at a restaurant" — that's the hook.
