Microstep 4 of 10

Why make an episode zero?

An episode zero is a 3–6 minute pre-launch episode that introduces your show — and gives you the published episode you need to submit to directories.

An episode zero is the name given to an introductory or "pre-launch" episode. It isn't essential, but a lot of podcasters do one — and there are good reasons.

Think of it as a longer trailer. A trailer is 30–60 seconds; an episode zero is around 3–6 minutes. That gives you space to set up your topic, introduce yourself, and explain what listeners should expect.

One of the biggest benefits: it gives you that "one published episode" needed to submit your show everywhere. By the time your first proper episode drops, your podcast is fully set up and ready.
