Why editing matters

Editing is where most podcasters get bogged down — and where most shows quietly die. Get the mindset right and editing stops eating your life.

Editing is the most commonly voiced frustration in podcasting.

This is the phase where you chop out mistakes, cut the fat from your conversations, clean up the audio, and level everything so it's consistently loud enough. Then you can mix in music, transitions, and pre-recorded segments.

It's also the part that puts tonnes of people off. Very few folks have ever used audio editing software — it's often complex and built for musicians, not podcasters. If you let it, editing will quietly eat your weeks and slowly kill your show.

Two big keys to podcasting success are consistency and sustainability. If you spend a tonne of time bogged down in editing software, chances are you're not going to enjoy it — and it won't be long before you convince yourself there are better things to do.
