Who is your podcast for?
Unless you know exactly who you're making the show for, you've got no chance of growing an audience. Build yourself an avatar — a made-up person who represents your ideal listener.
Take a personal trainer making a health and fitness podcast. Their avatar might be someone interested in healthy eating, weight loss, HIIT training, or bodybuilding.
Or a hobbyist who loves zombies and post-apocalyptic fiction — their audience is people with that same specific passion. Fans of The Walking Dead, players of Resident Evil.
Give your avatar a name, age, job, background, likes, and dislikes. Make them as real as you can — someone you can know, deeply.
The trick: with each episode you plan, ask yourself, "Would Jane like this?" That question is the key to compelling content, every time.
Sketch them as a real person
Fill in the blanks. Write it like you're describing a friend — no marketing-speak.

The thing that really gets under their skin is
They'll listen to my show because
